With a view to meeting the nutrition demand of the jobless poor and reducing the losses of the poultry industry as well, Shajahanpur upazila parishad chairman distributed eggs as a relief item among 1,200 families on Saturday.

The chairman, professor Sohrab Hossain Sannu, distributed 6,000 eggs – with each family getting 5 eggs – in two wards under the Bogura Municipality area and nine unions of Shajahanpur upazila.

Earlier, Sohrab Hossain bought vegetables from farmers who were not able to sell their produce due to the ongoing shutdown.

Shajahanpur has around 150 poultry farms in which 1 lakh eggs are produced daily. But the farmers are incurring losses as they could not sell their produce, said Sohrab.

Ershadul Rahman, a farmer of Amrul union's Foolkout village, said he does not have the ability to buy eggs although the price has dropped.

"My family is getting the chance of having eggs after 25 days as the chairman's people carried the relief items to my home," said Ershadul.

As of now, only 9.5m draught vessels could anchor at the port, each carrying 2,500 TEUs. But the 10m draught ship will be able to carry 4,000 TEUs, bumping up the port’s container handling capacity and bringing down costs. The photo was taken recently from the port area.
