The government has decided to set up a 10,000 litre oxygen plant at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital to maintain uninterrupted oxygen supply amid the pandemic.

It has also been decided to upgrade the hospital from 900 to 2,000 beds.

These decisions were taken at the 6th meeting of the management committee of the hospital held under the chairmanship of Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen.

The meeting decided to set up the 2nd unit of MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital at the premises of Infectious Diseases Hospital adjacent to Shahi Eidgah in Sylhet. The Public Works Department will take the necessary steps for the construction of the building after inspecting the site.

The meeting also decided to encourage the use of ambulances in the hospital. Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital has seven ambulances. The cost of the ambulance service of this hospital is much less than that of a private ambulance. Ordinary people do not know about the opportunity. The authority decided not to allow more than five private ambulances in the hospital premises at the same time.

It was informed at the meeting that the construction of a 1200-bed hospital at Sylhet University is in progress.

Selina Momen, wife of the foreign minister and a member of the management committee of the medical college hospital, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, mayor of Sylhet City Corporation, Sylhet divisional commissioner, police commissioner, director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital and member secretary of the management committee were also present in the virtual meeting.
