1 killed, 12 injured in Rajshahi road accident
Vehicular movement was suspended for around one hour on the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway
A man was killed and 12 more injured as two passenger buses collided head-on on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway in Chouddapai area of Rajshahi city on Monday – the first day of the resumption of long-haul bus service resumption.
The accident took place around 12:45pm on the day when the two speeding buses – Dhaka-bound Hanif Travels and Natore-bound Afia Paribahan – were crossing the Wheat Research Institute area of the city, said Jakir Hoassian, assistant deputy director of Rajshahi Fire Service.
He also said that they reached the spot on information and found a man – identified as Rabiul Awal, a motor vehicle worker – dead on the spot. The accident also left 12 men injured, who were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The operation of inter-district and long-haul buses has resumed on Monday after weeks of suspension that was imposed in an effort to curb coronavirus transmission.
